· The meeting was called to order at 7:15 PM by Vice-President Mike R. President Kevin O. was absent due to illness. In attendance: Mike R., Kevin D., Kevin H., and Ryan M.
Old Business
· Dues collection is nearly complete. Notices were sent out over a month ago. The collections will be deposited this week.
· Brother Kevin D. shared further information about the Saint Patrick's Day dinner to be hosted by the West Roxbury KoC. This year, the dinner will be held the evening of March 5. Please note the change in date from last month's minutes. Tickets are $25 per person and include a catered boiled dinner, an Irish Step Dancing demonstration by the Keohane School of Irish Dance, and live music provided by "Tradition." Interested brothers should contact Brother Kevin D. for tickets.
· Planning continues for the pub-crawl! Brother Mike R. is contacting pubs around the city. We have tentatively scheduled the event for some time in April, once the snow begins to melt. We will design a t-shirt to be sold to participants, which will include the AOH logo and a list of the participating pubs.
· Our next major event will take place on May 22 — The 3rd Annual Boston an Gorta Mór Commemoration. Further details will be forthcoming.
· There has been no progress in regard to the March membership drive. We are still in the process of contacting parishes in the Roslindale and West Roxbury areas. However, as always, brothers are encouraged to ask any potential recruits to join us!
· We are trying to contact the proper Archdiocesan officials in terms of gaining access to Tollgate Cemetery, as described in last month's minutes. We hope to hold the clean up sometime in April or May, possibly with the cooperation of local Boy Scouts.
· The Hibernian Digest has posted an article commemorating Brother David Burke of Division 8 Lawrence and the events held in his honor a few months ago. For further details, visit: http://www.hiberniandigest.com/2011/01/07/honoring-david-r-burke/.
New Business
· We will be trying to contact the National HQ, so that they might update their list of divisions at http://www.aoh.com. Presently, we are not on that list. We would also like them to provide a link directly to http://www.bostonhibernian.com.
· Irish Northern Aid Boston will commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the 1981 Hunger Strike with a banquet to be held May 7 at Florian Hall in Dorchester. There will be a number of local and Irish guest speakers, cocktails, dinner, and live music. Interested brothers can contact Cate Murphy at (617) 269-3530 or Brother Mike R. Alternatively, brothers can visit: http://www.irishnorthernaid.com/Boston.html.
· Emerson University is wrapping up an Irish drama series. Brother Kevin H., who saw the last two plays, shared a positive review. The third and final drama, "Terminus," is showing until February 13 at the Abbey Theatre. Visit: http://bit.ly/IrishFestival.
· Brothers are reminded that next month's meeting will be on Monday, March 7. We will meet at Robyn's in Roslindale Square at 7:00 PM.
· The business portion of the meeting was closed at 8:00 PM in commemoration of Gary Moore, who died last weekend, and John O'Mahony. The former, a Belfast native and an accomplished musician, was best known for his association with "Skid Row" and "Thin Lizzy." The latter, who died exactly 134 years ago, was founder of the Fenian Brotherhood in the United States. The Brotherhood, a precursor to Clan na Gael and the Irish Republican Brotherhood, was instrumental in rallying financial support from the Diaspora for the cause of Independence.
Respectfully submitted,
Ryan Mulvey
