Monthly Meeting, Monday, January 10, 2011
· The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by President Kevin O. In attendance: Kevin O., Kevin D., Kevin H., and Ryan M.
Old Business
· Last month's community service in West Roxbury was a great success. We "rang the bell" for the Salvation Army and obtained many donations, despite the cold, wind, and snow.
· Dues notices have been sent out. This year's renewal is $36. However, if you wish to pay on-line through PayPal, the cost is $40. 2011 membership cards will be distributed as dues are returned.
· Saint Patrick's Day is only two months away. Last year, many of our members attended the Irish dinner hosted by the Knights of Columbus. This year, the West Roxbury Council will be hosting their dinner on Saturday, March 12. It looks to be a great evening. Tickets are $25 per person and $50 per couple. Admission includes a catered boiled dinner, an Irish Step Dancing demonstration by the Keohane School of Irish Dance, and live music provided by "Tradition." Interested brothers should contact Kevin D.
· We are looking for fundraising suggestions. Currently, we are exploring the possibility of a pub-crawl and a film series. Members with ideas should share them at the next meeting.
New Business
· The 2011 Calendar of Events was distributed this evening. The next major event we are preparing for will take place on May 22 — The 3rd Annual Boston an Gorta Mór Commemoration. Further detail will be forthcoming.
· Meeting notices will now be sent by both e-mail and "snail mail." Expect to receive a post card from the Division announcing each meeting around ten days before hand.
· Plans are underway to schedule the March Membership Drive. The Division is in the process of scheduling with Roslindale and West Roxbury parishes to make announcements at their Masses and to set up recruitment booths outside following each liturgy. Further details will be forthcoming. However, brothers are encouraged also to ask any potential recruits that they might personally know to join us!
· Kevin D. has prepared a bulk of information on the Tollgate Catholic Cemetery, located on Hyde Park Avenue. Neglected and in poor shape, many of the poor souls resting there are Irish-American veterans of the Civil War. We hope to organize a project of some sort to clean up the premises and catalogue the graves. However, we can take no action until we receive permission from the owner to carry out such work, which has proven difficult since neither the city not the Archdiocese claims ownership. Further information will be provided as it becomes available. Brothers who are interested in reading about the history of Tollgate should contact Kevin D.
· Brothers are reminded that next month's meeting will be on Monday, February 7. We will meet at Robyn's in Roslindale Square at 7:00 PM.
· The business portion of the meeting was closed at 8:00 PM in commemoration of Arthur Griffith, who was elected President of Dáil Éireann on January 10, 1922. He was the last Príomh Aire to lead a dáil elected by a united Ireland. Griffith also was the founder of Sinn Féin and the head of the delegation, which included Michael Collins, which produced the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921 — a major step towards Ireland's independence. Arthur Griffith died on August 12, 1922.
On behalf of all the brothers, Happy New Year! Athbhliain faoi shéan is faoi mhaise daoibh!
Respectfully submitted,
Ryan Mulvey

Monthly Meeting, Monday, December 6, 2010
· The meeting was called to order at 7:42 PM by President Kevin O. In attendance: Kevin O., Kevin D., Kevin H., Mike D., Bill B., and Ryan M.
· This month's meeting was held at the Roche Bros. in West Roxbury. From 6:30 PM our brothers were "ringing the bell" for charitable donations for the Salvation Army. Despite the cold, wind, and snow, the collection was successful.
Old Business
· On October 29, Al Madden, a proud Hibernian brother of Division 1 Dorchester, passed. The wake and Ritual were held on November 2. Some of our members attended and found the ceremony very moving. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
· This past month division members attended both the Guy Fawkes lecture at the Boston Public Library and the James Michael Curley memorial rosary at Calvary Cemetery.
· We are looking for fundraising suggestions. Currently, we are exploring the possibility of a pub-crawl and a film series. Members with ideas should share them at the next meeting.
New Business
· Dues will be sent out shortly. The cost is still $36. However, if you wish to pay on-line through PayPal, the cost is $40.
· We welcome Mike P. as our newest brother. His membership will take effect this coming January. Céad míle fáilte romhat, a Mhíchíl!
· With the holidays upon us, division activities have slowed down. Next year we will continue to focus on increasing membership and fundraising. In March, we plan on hosting a recruitment drive at local parishes. Further details will be forthcoming.
· On January 15, the Roslindale Knights of Columbus will be hosting their "Beach Party." Further details will be forthcoming.
· Saint Patrick's Day is quickly approaching. Last year many of our members attended the dinner hosted by the Roslindale Knights of Columbus. Details will be forthcoming for the 2011 dinner. We also discussed the possibility of participating in the parade hosted by Division 1 Barnstable (Cape Cod).
· Next month's meeting has been moved to Monday, January 10. We will meet at Robyn's in Roslindale Square.
· The business portion of the meeting was closed at 7:51 pm in commemoration of the fallen heroes of the Irish Civil War. On December 6, 1922, exactly eighty-eight years ago, the British Crown first recognized the Irish Free State. This was the first step towards an independence that has yet to be fully achieved.
On behalf of all the brothers, Merry Christmas! Nollaig Shona Dhaoibh!
